Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need in order to join the Florida Mayflower Society?

You will need to document each generation between yourself and the Mayflower Pilgrim. Primary evidence consists of birth, death, and marriage certificates.

You can send an email to our State Historian about joining the Florida Mayflower Society.

Always start with your immediate family, documenting births, deaths and marriages. In addition, many local libraries have Mayflower Families silver books, which are published by the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. The silver books contain the first five generations of most of the Mayflower passengers. This and more are explained in the Florida Guidelines. Effective January 1, 2024, there are two, one-time fees: $150.00 to GSMD application fee (The General Society of Mayflower Descendants) and $40.00 to FSMD application fee (The Mayflower Society in the State of Florida). Then, there are yearly dues of $54.00.

Request a transfer by contacting Florida State Historian. Your current State Historian will need to verify that you are a member in “good standing” (dues are current) and provide a copy of your approved Mayflower application to the Florida State Historian.

You can become a “Dual” member but will be required to pay dues to both state societies. There is no reciprocity for life membership from other states and you will be required to pay dues to the Florida Society. The procedure is the same as a transfer.

You can check the website for that state for contact information, or each Spring issue of the Mayflower Quarterly lists each state with names and addresses of its officers.  Click here to go to the General Mayflower Society website where links to all the member societies can be found.

Supplemental applications and silver supplemental applications cost the same as an original application.

Individuals seeking copies of an established lineage should contact the General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD) in Plymouth. Click here to go to their website.  NOTE: The General Society charges a $75.00 fee to process a Mayflower Lineage Match, which will reveal if another person has joined the Society using the same lineage. This charge is NOT part of an application fee!
